Yakov Werde has posted a video from his 2014 Charlotte PowerBuilder User Group Conference presentation covering PowerBuilder Classic and COM InterOp. The presentation provides a technical overview, a survey of necessary tools as well as implementation detail.  There’s a live demo toward the end of the presentation.

He uses this integration approach to implement a solution in a legacy PowerBuilder application when .NET provides necessary functionality and PowerBuilder doesn’t.

Yakov Werde is a long-time PowerBuilder Trainer, Consultant and presenter on PowerBuilderTV.

Today, organizations with PowerBuilder systems face a two fold HR challenge: They (1) have
difficulty finding skilled and experienced developers and (2) are challenged to train new PowerBuilder developers because of the difficulty in finding quality PowerBuilder training, eLearnIT has chosen a range of topics in the "sweet spot" that address the needs of intermediate level PowerBuilder developers.

Often developers are ill prepared for the PowerBuilder application maintenance tasks assigned to them.  Developers are often left to "figure it out for themselves" by reading other developers code and searching the internet for coding clues. Application coding is often "copy, imitate and modify" or hammered in in the fastest way.  Efficiency, performance, style  and maintainability are generally sacrificed because the goal is to "get the job done."

The NC User Group training targets self-taught or classroom trained PowerBuilder developers with basic skills and experience. Yakov will provide them with skills, techniques and approaches to enable them to rapidly advance to expert level skills.

Using modules from eLearnIT's Advanced PowerBuilder for Professionals and based on the principal "Best Practices, the PowerBuilder way", a developer can expect to gain an arsenal of techniques to apply when working on existing systems

About Your Trainer:
